What Is the MelaBrite/Melanage MD Superficial Peel?

MelaBrite/Melanage MD is a superficial peel designed to enhance the texture and appearance of hyperpigmented skin. The treatment involves applying a cream mask in our office and a recommended at-home skincare routine. The mask application is painless and typically causes minimal irritation. You may experience mild discomfort for the next 3-4 days, similar to a sunburn.

The MelaBrite/Melanage MD superficial peel works by penetrating the outer layers of the skin to exfoliate dead cells and reduce pigmentation. The treatment includes ingredients like alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) and other brightening agents that promote skin cell turnover and enhance collagen production. Over time, these ingredients work to diminish dark spots, reduce the appearance of sun damage, and smooth uneven texture.

  • Stimulates collagen production for firmer, smoother skin
  • Minimal downtime with quick recovery
  • Safe and effective for all skin types

Who Is a Candidate for MelaBrite/Melanage MD?

Patients who suffer from uneven skin tone, pigmentation issues, or melasma are generally excellent candidates for this peel. However, this peel should NOT be used in patients with:

  • Dermatitis
  • Inflammatory rosacea in the area to be treated
  • Sensitive skin
  • Sunburn
  • Skin with open wounds, warts, or active cold sores
  • A history of herpes simplex
  • A history of allergies, rashes, or other skin reactions

Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not have this treatment, as well as those who have taken Accutane in the past year or have received chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

MelaBrite/Melanage Mini

The MelaBrite/Melanage Mini peel is a gentle chemical that uses mild acids and effective non-acidic ingredients, making it safe for all skin types. It helps reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots (hyperpigmentation) without causing pain or damage to the skin.

During your appointment, we will apply the peel, and you will remove it at home after a specific time based on your skin type. It's important to follow a strict at-home care routine that we will explain to you, which includes applying several products after you remove the peel. Most patients notice significant improvements in the appearance of dark spots, though results can vary.

You may experience some peeling, but even if you don’t, you can still expect improvements in your skin’s tone, texture, fine lines, and breakouts. Our staff will evaluate your skin before treatment to help set realistic expectations. The Mini peel causes less redness and peeling than the MelaBrite/Melanage MD peel. We recommend a series of 4-6 Mini peels spaced 2-3 weeks apart for the best results.

MelaBrite/Melanage Micro

Like the MelaBrite/Melanage Mini peel, this treatment targets pigmentation, texture, and tone for various skin types. It uses a blend of acids along with a brightening agent and retinoid. This treatment works well as a standalone superficial peel or as a maintenance option after more intensive procedures like CO2 laser resurfacing, IPL/BBL treatments, or the MelaBrite MD or Mini peels.

The Treatment Process

The MelaBrite/Melanage MD peel is freshly mixed during your visit to guarantee its effectiveness and quality. The mask will be applied in our office and should be removed by you after a specific time, which will be based on your skin type. After your appointment, it’s important to follow a detailed at-home care routine that we will explain to you. Adhering closely to these instructions is essential, as it involves using several products after you remove the mask.

What to Expect After Treatment

Typically, our patients experience significant improvements in the appearance of the pigmented areas, although results vary. The dark areas should get lighter, and the skin texture and tone will improve. In general, the superficial layers of the skin peel in most patients. Our staff will do a proper skin evaluation for you prior to your treatment to help you better prepare for the expected outcome.

Results and Maintenance

The MelaBrite/Melanage MD peel provides visible improvements after just one treatment, but optimal results are often achieved with a series of peels. Over time, your skin will appear brighter, clearer, and more youthful. We recommend following a skincare routine that includes professional products and sunscreen to maintain your results. Additional maintenance treatments may also be suggested to keep your skin looking its best.
